St Peter’s Nursing Home

Project Overview

Part of the Trinity Care group, St. Peter’s Nursing Home is purpose built and set in quiet grounds on the outskirts of Castlebellingham Village, Co. Louth. The home is situated within walking distance of the local shops, post office and church.

Eco Life Energy designed and installed a Hybrid Heating Hub to take over the production of hot water for the Space Heating and DHW in the nursing home. The Eco Life Hub replaced existing oil boilers in the plant room which were inefficient and replaced them with a system using heat pumps backed up by LPG gas boilers.

System Design

System Type: Hybrid Heating Hub designed and installed to produce hot water for Space Heating and Domestic Hot Water for residents needs as well as the kitchen and laundry in the nursing home.

Onsite Energy Source: LPG & Electricity

Eco Life Hybrid Heating Hub: Main Component Parts

We are converting the nursing home from oil to LPG

Condensing Gas Boilers

Electric Air Source Heat Pumps

Thermal Storage

Rapid Recovery Cylinder for DHW production

Metering & Monitoring of all energy inputs & outputs

Web Enabled Smart Control System

Installation of Heating System

Post installation the control panel in the Eco Life Hybrid Heating Hub controls the existing zone pumps which are located in the original plant room of the nursing home

Four thermostats for the provision of zonal control were installed in key areas of the nursing home

Predictions & Savings

Carbon Footprint at the site will be reduced by an estimated 44% year on year thus helping St Peter’s to meet the National Energy Efficiency Plan (NEEP 2020) guidelines which require a reduction of 20% in energy usage by 2020.

Primary Energy usage at the site will be reduced by an estimated 54% year on year.

Projected Savings in energy costs shows a system payback of circa 5 years. This does not take into account the savings made by reduced maintenance costs due to the installation of new plant. It also does not take into account the potential future increase in savings caused by a rise in inflation, the need to replace old plant or the cost of energy.
